RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENDERS, GREEN BILLS CHAMPIONS TO LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN THAT DARES PNOY, CONGRESS AND SENATE TO BE GREEN
In line with the World Environment Day (WED2015), Environmental defenders coming from the youth sector, human rights advocates and environmentalists legislators will launch a campaign to fire up the advocacy for the passage of the three green bills (Alternative Minerals Management Bill-AMMB, National Land Use Act-NLUA and the Forest Resources Bill-FRB) pending before the 16th Congress.
The campaign tagged as “#ItsNeverHardToBeGreen” seeks to enlist the support of the youth. It proposes an innovative approach through the appropriation of “COSPLAY” into CAUSEPLAY to highlight the seriousness of the issue packaged in a popular form.
The campaign is also the final push in the 16th Congress to pass the triad bills within its last year in office. By October filing of candidacies will be concluded and the informal campaign period will begin thereafter. “Practically we have six months to renew the push for the three green bills or will again be overtaken by the national and local campaigns of the electoral candidates.”
Aiming to place once again national attention to the three pending green bills the campaign is to culminate on the annual GREEN MARCH to be held on July – days before the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of PNoy.
The Press Conference Launch will be led by Representative Barry Gutierez of the Prty-List AKBAYAN, Representative Teddy Baguilat of the Lone District of Ifugao (Former chairperson of the Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives), Leaders of three broad networks for the three green bill –Campaign for Land Use Policy (ClupNow!), SOS Yamang Bayang Network (SOS-YB) and Forest Resources Bill Network and spokesperson of Youth For Rights (Y4R).

What is WED
Celebrate the biggest day for positive environmental action!
World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.
The WED theme this year is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.” The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources. And yet, evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide.
Many of the Earth’s ecosystems are nearing critical tipping points of depletion or irreversible change, pushed by high population growth and economic development. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption.
Consuming with care means living within planetary boundaries to ensure a healthy future where our dreams can be realized. Human prosperity need not cost the earth. Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less. It is about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not a necessary by-product of economic growth.

Fingerprints – Written and performed by Cian McGovern.
The HD video is a montage from other youtube videos which includes footage from BBC Motion Gallery.
The song was inspired after watching HD footage of earth one day on youtube. The pop synth ballad tells of a marsian who happens upon the planet on this travels through space. He is in awe of it’s mystery, intelligence and beauty.
With this short production, I hope that I can provide some escapism for 6 and a half minutes and also make you appreciate the piece of rock you are standing on, which is often taken for granted. Enjoy.
I stand upon the shoulders of these giants,
You should see the view,
Incredible to say the least,
Looking from the outside of this womb.
I dare to cross the barrier in hope,
that I may just find you,
Hold on I’ve just departed now and
I’ll arrive there soon.
I ‘ve sailed the seven seas on my own,
It took all day all night,
I’ve climbed the steepest mountains now,
They brought me to the light.
I think I’ve finally found my place of refuge,
I have here all I need,
I spent my whole past lifetime with infinity,
Yet here I feel so free.
Are you just a lump of rock floating out in space,
Looking for a place to call your home?
Will there come a day when you will leave without a trace,
I see fingerprints.
A billion generations all embedded in your skin,
They’re gone but yet they know just what to do,
I hope some day I join it all the network that’s within,
See those fingerprints, I see fingerprints in you.
So many magic tricks and brilliant visions,
You put on quite a show,
So many variations, forms and colours,
From black to white, both day and night,
Oh its all here, from beauty to the beast,
This massive giant puzzle that you’ve made to share,
They all fit piece by piece.
WHAT IS “CAUSEPLAY, HR and Environment Defenders campaign”?
Inspired by the performance art called cosplay where participants wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Targeting the youth and with a twist, “Causeplay” will encourage the youth to join the cause for protection of human rights and our environment.
An information campaign drive by the youth and among the youth about what is human rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and who human rights defenders (HRDs) are. It aims to build awareness and generate support for the AMMB and other green bills.
Inspire the youth to assert protection of our environment and the right to safe sound and balance ecology through creative means and the use of social media.
Generate support and mobilize participation in creative actions in calling for the government to respect and protect HR and environment.
Initiate a solidarity campaign for human rights and the environment. Initiate actions to support the call for the repeal of laws that harm the right of the people for a safe, sound and balance ecology and the legislation of green bills.
It’s never hard to be green
Protect our environment and the right to safe sound and balance ecology!
“More than 2 million annual deaths and billions of cases of diseases are attributed to pollution. All over the world, people experience the negative effects of environmental degradation ecosystems decline, including water shortage, fisheries depletion, natural disasters due to deforestation and unsafe management and disposal of toxic and dangerous wastes and products. Indigenous peoples suffer directly from the degradation of the ecosystems that they rely upon for their livelihoods. Climate change is exacerbating many of these negative effects of environmental degradation on human health and wellbeing and is also causing new ones, including an increase in extreme weather events and an increase in spread of malaria and other vector born diseases. These facts clearly show the close linkages between the environment and the enjoyment of human rights, and justify an integrated approach to environment and human rights.” -UN Environment Program (UNEP)
Safe, balance and healthy environment is essential to the realisation of human rights not only of the present but of the future generation. Each of us depends on protecting the environment as the resource base for all life.
INFORM, INSPIRE THE YOUTH TO ACT!
